Use the Icon directly under (Create inlay tool path) to create tool paths. If not use a staight end mill. I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Aug 16, 2015 · I am using VCarve desktop 8.020 Inlay (male and female) tool path I am using a 1/8" end mill at feed rate 60 inches/min. I believe the router is set to it's highest speed which the literature claims is 35,000 rpm. 20 ipm plunge. It is set to cut a 1/4" deep pocket in 3 passes (0.0833 per pass).

It is best if both parts are offset. I have found that about 0.014" is a good starting point, 0.007 for each part. VCarve has an 'inlay' tool path that allows you to enter the offset. You should test the settings on scrap before cutting your final wood. 2nd, pay attention to the corners.

Oct 2, 2013 · Been testing the VCarve Inlay (not the inlay toolpath) process lately and it is clear I need to practice more. My students seem intrigued by the samples though, which is the whole point. Hopefully they'll be inspired to push the limits of VCarve/CNCing some.

Aug 4, 2010 · Hi Tim - I turned a mahogany bowl on the lathe. I used the shark to carve the inlay pockets (female half) on the inside fo the mahogany bowl and the inlay inserts (male half) in the cherry, maple and walnut. The shark was also used to carve the feet on the bottom of the bowl and to add the signature and other info on the bottom. Ed
