An Exhibit helps you supplement existing documents in a number of ways. Be it a civil suit, custody battle, or divorce, an Exhibit allows you to append and submit new information for consideration. An Exhibit can give you the versatility to adapt to an evolving situation.
Step 1: the deadline. Read your pre-trial order and find out the deadline for exchanging copies with the other side. Step 2: sorting. Sort your papers, pictures, receipts, etc... Step 3: planning your case. Decide what you might want to use. • Relevant? • Necessary? • Helps your case? • Admissible, i.e. is it allowed under the Rules of Evidence?
Create an exhibit page. Exhibit pages should start a new section in the document and generally do not have page numbers. At the top of the page, in a large bold font, type the name of the exhibit and a brief description of the exhibit. For example, "Exhibit A -- Deed of Trust."
