Wisconsin for $8 a bag (4 cf), as opposed to $50-$65 a bag for a vermiculite mix sold by chimney stores online. As dvellone stated, this should work fine for fill in the chimney cavity.

2010年2月25日 · Or else make sure the vermiculite has been treated with silicon for water resistance. Treated = construction grade, non-treated = horticultural grade. If there is concern about it sifting through any cracks, I think you are wise to go with the coarser material.

I am forming my theory that vermiculite is used in the commercial mix because the granules are smaller than horticultural perlite, providing more insulating value by eliminating voids of insulating material throughout the mix.

Lift liner a tad to settle any bridging and top off as needed. Place liner top plate and clamp tight, seal with RTV silicon to minimize air leakage through insulation.

2008年8月31日 · Mica and vermiculite will tolerate pretty high temperatures. But I feel uncomfortable when some one suggests back filling around a liner in a chimney. Indeed, the stuff flows, and could get inside the liner if it ever developed any holes or other openings. Vermiculite used to be used as attic insulation.
